Red Rocks Land
AFTER introducing the little Switzerland in the previous blogspot, this gallery is full of the Land of the Red Rocks pictures. Southern region of the Grand-Duche (Les Terres Rouges) offers tens of kilometers of cycling paths and hiking trails among terrific natural landscape and small canyons.
Long story short – the region has fastly developed in the 19th century after the iron ore was found in the soil. For decades the soil gave work to thousands of miners and workers. After the golden age of industrial society also the industrial region had its peak in the past.
Nowadays some of the sites are turned into the national parks, the old factory in Belval becomes the University Library soon. In villages of Petange or Fond-de-Gras you can take a ride on historical train ‘1900’ or a miners’ train via the mining tunnels on the line Fond-de-Gras to Lasauvage and back.
Beaufort, Luxembourg
BEAUFORT castle in North-East Luxembourg is part of the Mullerthal region and is probably the second most visited place in the country, after the city. Camping sites are there in almost every little village and the hiking trails are connecting most of them. The tourist office of Luxembourg call the region “Petite Suisse Luxembourgoise” – the little Luxemburgish Switzerland.
Picturesqe Luxembourg
LIVING in Luxembourg is like living in fairy-tale, they say. The royals are ruling the little grand duché justly and everybody is rich and happy. So I thougt – once the summer knocked on the door – take some pictures, show the fairy, tell the story. Here it is, the true photo story of Luxembourg.
Birthday of Grand Duck
MISSPELINGS happen when you’re old and a bit chaotic. And so one of my luxembourgish professors called the ruling monarch of his country the Grand Duck. Henry, the Duke, would probably forgive him, if he ever knew.
If for no other reason, he is himself getting older – celebrated the 57th birthday this weekend (although being born in April). For some official celebrity pictures click here, for some real good pictures see my gallery below.
