Birthday of Grand Duck

June 24, 2012 2 comments

MISSPELINGS happen when you’re old and a bit chaotic. And so one of my luxembourgish professors called the ruling monarch of his country the Grand Duck. Henry, the Duke, would probably forgive him, if he ever knew.

If for no other reason, he is himself getting older – celebrated the 57th birthday this weekend (although being born in April). For some official celebrity pictures click here, for some real good pictures see my gallery below.

Three Things You Won’t Miss in Paris

June 4, 2012 Leave a comment

IF YOU EXPECT some words about the Eiffel Tower or Notre-Dame, this is going to be dissapointing. The big attraction sides of Paris are easily avoidable: just don’t to the part of the city. The three scenes I noticed are almost unavoidable because they are everywhere on the streets of Paris and nowhere else to this extent.

A. Children on a trip in the same cap

Admittedly, I experienced the same about 15 years ago. Before the school trip all the mothers had to buy the same baseball cap for her child so that teachers can easily keep the kids on the radar. So far I never seen this kids-in-caps phenomena in other cities like Rome or Bruxelles or Barcelona. Paris rules!

B. Yield the Mopeds!

It’s like in the streets of Netherlands (or Flanders for that matter), just that instead of bikes everybody must yield mopeds. Hundreds of riders are browsing the streets of Paris many times with no respect to red lights or ‘no entry’ sign on the road.

C. Flat is Paris. Parisian is Flat

Girls forgive me the observation, however, the truth is that the fashion dummies in the clothes shops were particularly flat. Probably this is the average in Paris, or they only design the dummies to display the pieces which ultra slim models present on the pier. One way or the other, impression stays. Paris is flat and the highest point is the holy knoll.

Paris the Colourful

ALMOST fifteen years it took that I returned to Paris. I have changed since then and so has the technology. And so I can brag about the nice HDR pictures I took. Here they are. Paris through the lens of my Nikon.

To be seen in the slideshow: Sacré-Coeur, Tour Eiffel, Notre-Dame, Cimetiére de Montmartre, Versailles, Louvre
